Behind the Easel

The next participant for Durham Dreams: Mary Ann Black
When MaryAnn Black was named the Associate Vice President for Community Relations for Duke University Health Systems in 2002, it represented an increased effort of creating a strong bond between the University and Durham’s diverse community. Black, a Durham resident for over thirty years, has had a strong presence in the community, beginning with her social work. Her first focus was the family. Her efforts were honored by the National Association of Social Workers, which awarded Black the Social Worker of the Year Award in 1994. Black later took an increased interest in the political field. She worked for the Durham County Commissioner from 1990 until 2002 and held the Chairperson position from 1996 until 2002. Black’s mission now is to develop strong relationships between Duke University Health System, the local government, and communities.
Interpreting Mary Ann's dream will be such an honor. Tonight I am sketching some of my initial inspirations and will post images and share thoughts tomorrow. Thanks for joining me!
