Behind the Easel

Durham Dreamer for the month of May: Mary Ann Black. Her completed Dream Portrait will be unveiled May21st with a reception celebrating the dream of this wonderful, well loved woman and leader in Durham.  The reception will be 5-6 PM at Goldenbelt studio #114, 807 E Main Durham NC.
Mary Ann Black's desired color choice for her "Dream Portrait" is blue. The more I have mixed, dipped and swooshed it on the canvas, the more I have thought ,"What a perfect color for her!" Blue is an elegant color that holds within it, a wide diversity of expression.
Blue is calming, but it can also be strong, steadfast or light and cheery. Holding an appeal to many, some shade of the color blue is often chosen by people when asked their favorite color. A natural color, from the blue of the sky, blue is  universal. The cool, calming effect of blue can create the sense of time passing more quickly, aiding in creating a restful feeling. Blue  can also convey significance and confidence without being somber or sinister, hence the blue power suit of the corporate world and the blue uniforms of police officers. It has long been considered a corporate color, especially darker blue, ans is associated with intelligence, stability, unity, and conservatism.
What a perfect color to portray this wonderful leader in Durham! The spirit of this color perfectly fits her attributes: serene strong, steadfast, confident, and intellegent! It is an honor to paint her dream.
